"After the birth of our daughter, my wife and I were confronted with a barrage of contradictory information regarding breastfeeding technique. Every nurse in the postpartum unit seemed to have a different approach to try, and with each successive attempt we just got more confused about what we should be doing. Some even suggested that the pain my wife was experiencing was normal, or indicative of her being “too sensitive” - something we now know to be patently false. The lactation consultant the hospital provided to us was stretched between multiple couples and offered little in the way of a personalized assessment, telling us that this would have to wait for an appointment at the breastfeeding clinic. Of course, this could take days, and in the meantime we were both stressed about how our daughter would be fed without causing further trauma to my wife.

In this milieu I consider it a true blessing that we found someone as experienced and helpful as Pam. She responded to our email inquiry right away and set up a time to meet us in the comfort of our own home. Her assessment was detailed and thorough, and although she was only booked for two hours she stayed longer to ensure that we were on the right track. She had a calming, relaxing presence that helped to facilitate a successful latch. Moreover, she stayed in frequent contact by phone and email after our visit and helped us work through hurdles that came up along the way. Her IBCLC certification was obviously well-earned and I doubt there is any aspect of the breastfeeding process she doesn’t have intimate familiarity with.

Breastfeeding is natural, but not always intuitive. Although everyone seems to have an opinion, if you have decided it is something you wish to pursue, I would only listen to the experts - not your nurse, not your mother, not your friend. I am thankful we found Pam when we did and would not hesitate to recommend her to other couples." -Raheem, Edmonton

"Thanks again Pam. My husband and I agree you have been so helpful and made a huge difference. I don’t dread breastfeeding now (ok, maybe still a bit at 3am) and reducing the pumping sessions has increased morale tremendously!" -Siobhan, Edmonton

"At the beginning of February, I reached out to Pam Davey in desperation and it was the best thing I could have done. I am and will be forever grateful to her. Here's why, mid January I gave birth to my son. I was very determined to exclusively breast feed him. But that came with its own challenges, only after a day or 2 of feeding him I was very damaged and every feeding I dreaded because it was so painful for my son and myself. At this time, I was very green to this whole process and reached out to some on my friends to see when it would get better and they told me after a few weeks it would be pain free and to you tube the proper way to get a good latch and so on. So that is what I did I waited it out in hopes it would become less painful. I spend a lot of time also watching copious amounts of videos to try and teach me how to properly nurse. After it was not getting better at all I reached out to Pam for help. I was so damaged, and the pain was unbearable. She was able to come see me the next morning and was able to recognize that my son could not move his neck to the left side very well and that the inside of his mouth was tethered. Two things I would have known nothing about. She recommended I go to the dentist and get his mouth corrected so he could flange his top lip properly and she recommended a chiropractor to loosen him up. She gave me information and contacts as well as options for each. I took her advice and got his mouth fixed and got him the body work he needed and right after I got these corrected feeding was much better. I now have no pain and it is now an enjoyable process for my son and myself, the way it should be. If it was not for Pam, my son would be on formula right now. She is very knowledgeable and extremely friendly and kind. I will be recommending Pam to everyone I know going through what I went through." - Tiffany, St. Albert

It was incredibly reassuring to have you there coaching me through the pain and reminding me that my body was made just for such an experience.

"Thank you for all your amazing help. I am so glad you were my doula and I really appreciate all your advice and support."  - Erin, Edmonton

"My husband and I found the expense of hiring a doula very worthwhile even though we were a tad nervous about inviting a stranger to be with us for the labour and delivery.  After all, she would be seeing us at our most unguarded moments.  After interviewing several others, we decided that Pam was the one that suited who we are.  Her warmth, down to earth attitude, and her willingness to be available to advise us throughout the pregnancy were key factors in our decision.

Pam lent us books and DVDs to prepare ourselves, she answered our questions throughout via email and phone, she even followed up after the postpartum visit when we had questions and didn't know who to ask.  During labour, Pam took care of the birthing pool so that I could labour in water, she helped with making sure we were comfortable like getting us drinks... she was there when we needed her and knew when to step back. It was perfect, we couldn't have asked for better support!"
- Becky, Edmonton

We want you to know that every time we think of the birth of our first baby boy, we will think of you and the large part you played in making sure our vision of labour became a reality. Having you as our doula was undoubtedly one of the best decisions we made in preparing for our baby's arrival." - Nicole, Edmonton

"Thanks for all your support and assistance. I'm happy to report that we are breast feeding only! I think we are ok to go it on our own from this point on! Had him weighed last Tuesday and he was 11.6 lbs- gained about 1.5lbs in two weeks! Yikes! We reached our goals in just over a month! I'm so glad I didn't give up as I would have regretted it. It feels so good to know my baby is getting all the nutrients and many other benefits from me! Your support and encouragement was critical in getting us back on track and reaching our goals. Thank you so much for that! It's a gift that can't really be repaid! However, I'd be happy to refer you to others who are experiencing breast feeding challenges! Be well and many many many thanks from baby L and I!!" - Charyle, Edmonton AB
